This small apartment is located within a typical Haussmannian building in the XI° arrondissement of Paris, just a few steps from the Bastille and the Père Lachaise Cemetery. It is the pied-à-terre of an Italian journalist, used to spend long periods in the French capital for writing and doing research. For this purpose, he wanted a flexible and meditative space, capable of gathering his memories and visual universe. The house, whose surface is only 50 sqm, consists of a living area with an open kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom and a small terrace, all connected by an entrance that also serves as a hallway.

The project reverses the typical tendency to solve small dimensions with a rarefaction of finishes and details and instead chooses to emphasize its character through colors and materials. This attitude can be observed in the living area, where the coexistence between the kitchen and the living room is resolved with a theatrical gesture: a large folding door divides the two spaces. The mirror used as a backdrop for the kitchen expands the space and reflects the brick color chosen for the interior of the curtain, creating an original play of reflections. Next to the kitchen, the sofa area is enclosed by a bordeaux veneer paneling, where mobile shelves and a small cabinet for smoking items are placed, while the dining space materializes into an expandable, XIXth century English table. In the bedroom, the shades are inverted to give prominence to the shades of blue, materialized by the wallpaper designed by Le Corbusier which serves as a background for the bed, hosting a recessed niche for books and small objects. Overlooking the room there is a small terrace, shadowed by a large striped curtain.
